This piece features a poster of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, who seems to be encouraging
the viewer to ascend to an unknown destination. Given her very difficult life with lifelong
health problems and not one but two tempestuous marriages to fellow painter Diego Rivera,
I find this guidance reassuring as it suggests that difficult journeys are still worth enduring.

Frida Kahlo was often called a surrealist but she rejected that label contending that her paintings,
despite the many fantasy elements, primarily reflected not her dreams but her own reality.
I feel exactly the same about my work.
