This piece was my impression of how so many people live their lives:
drowning in debt and just trying to survive; i.e., just keep their heads above water.
I actually painted this a couple of years prior to the financial crisis,
but it took on new meaning when millions of struggling homeowners
found themselves "underwater" on their mortgages.
